Even the females dont have it easy, mothers/girlfriends have a shared experience of NS, just talk to any woman/girl who has a son/boyfriend.

I had the opportunity to observe the daily routines of a Thai village.
Serving national service may be mentally and physically challenging but the Thai villagers have had it going for decades and for some even their lifetime.
That taught me not to take our way of life in Singapore for granted.

When Nicol highway collasped, were the rescuers hired from some agency? No, it was our boys who were out there day and night searching for survivors.
When the Silkway plane crashed, it was our own divers in the waters of zero visibility recovering bodies for the families of the dead.
When SARS broke out, how many nurses and doctors put their lives on the line to treat and care for those infected?

Weiqiang, I hope you will have a more positive mentality towards National Service.
No doubt it'll be tough at times but you must be aware your peers are in this as well. If there is anything troubling you, you can always refer to your superiors or even myself.
Most importantly, it is your mentality that shapes your NS experience.
